Prosciutto Wrapped Dates

Appetizers are one of my favorite food groups. I love getting to sample little bits of everything, however getting creative with them can be tricky. Oftentimes when people think of appetizers, they think chips and dip or veggies and dip. Which, don’t get me wrong I love both of those options, but I love getting creative too! These Prosciutto Wrapped Dates are an easy and fun appetizer to bring to any party, or just make at home.

Prosciutto used to be one thing that I never liked and I don’t know why! I recently started eating it again and love it. It is the perfect pairing with some sweet, like fruit or in a salad. When I snack on something during the day, I like to have at least two of the following: protein, fat, or carbs. Prosciutto makes the perfect protein pairing with either a fat or a carb. Hence why these Prosciutto (protein) Wrapped Dates (carbs) are one of my favorite things!

Now to find some quality prosciutto can be tricky, but the key is to read the ingredients (as is with everything else). I try to find it with no sugar and no extra preservatives. I can often find great brands at Whole Foods and Sprouts, but you can find them almost anywhere! Applegate is the one I really love, but that is definitely not the only brand out there. This prosciutto is also Whole30 Approved, but don’t feel like you have to use that one… there are lots out there.

Tips for Prosciutto Wrapped Dates:

  1. These are technically Whole30 compatible, but if you are on a Whole30 round, I advise you save these for parties and such that you know there won’t be other apps that you can eat.
  2. Like I said, I use Applegate prosciutto, but you can use any kind.
  3. You can use any dates you like, but I prefer to buy ones that are already pitted to save time.
  4. This recipe also goes really will if you want to stuff the dates with goat cheese, Kite Hill cream, or your favorite nut butter.

Ingredients

  • 16 Medjool Dates pitted
  • 6 slices Prosciutto I like Applegate

Instructions

  • Preheat your oven to 350 degree. Lay foil down on a baking sheet.
  • Cut the prosciutto slices in half length-wise. Wrap each date with a strip of prosciutto and place on the foil.
  • Bake for about 15 minutes. This will depend on how large your dates are, so check at 10 minutes to be sure they are not burning. When the prosciutto is lightly browned, they should be finished.
  • Remove from oven and let them cool for about 10 minutes before serving. Serve and enjoy!
